How to connect Gmail as a custom email address?

Prerequisite Help article: How to send emails using custom SMTP?

If your Gmail account has an additional layer of security on it, you need to follow these extra steps to make your Gmail SMTP work.

Creating App Password in Google

As Clientjoy is not a Google App it will be recognized as a "less secure app". That doesn't mean that Clientjoy isn't secure, it is just what Google calls third party apps. So in order to connect your Gmail account securely, you would have to create an app password, here's how

  1. Login to your Google Account.

  2. Choose 'Security' on the left navigation panel.

  3. On the 'Signing into Google' panel, choose App passwords and copy the App password.

Note - If you can't see app passwords in the Gmail Account, ensure that the 2-Step Verification is enabled and set appropriately for your account.

In order to enable 2- step Verification follow :

a. Click on 2-step verification option as shown above and click on Get Started.

b. Now you need to enter your Gmail password again and need to use your phone as your second step to sign in and click on Continue.

c. Now add a back up option. for which you need to enter your contact number and choose how do you want to get codes? and Click on send.

d. Confirm that it works and enter the code received text and click Next.

e. Click on turn on button to turn on 2-step verification and click on the back arrow to get back on the main manage your account screen. There click on the visible app password option and copy the app password.

There are a few other reasons why you may not be seeing the App Passwords option:

  • 2-Step Verification is set up for security keys only.

  • Your account is through work, school, or other organization.

  • You’ve turned on Advanced Protection for your account.
